STINK BUGS
What are they, you ask?
Fairly new to the area, The Brown Marmorated Stink Bug is native to Asia. They virtually have no predators here and bug spray has very little to no effect on them. They have a shield-like body for protection, but, do not bite or sting. When squished, they give off an odor (or stench) which will attract more.
How to repel them:
-
Scatter catnip (spray, powder, or plant)
-
Spread garlic (powder or cloves) around affected areas
-
Spread mint leaves (or mint oil)
-
Place fly tape around the perimeter of affected areas like window sills, doorways, and around the patio screens
How can we help?
If you see any noticeable holes that need to be patched in the patio screens you may put in a work-order with the office. Also, make sure weather stripping on doors are secure with no gaps. Our regular maintenance hours are 8:30am – 5:30pm, Monday – Friday.
Recipe for stink bug repellant spray:

4 tbsp. of garlic powder
Ground mint leaves or mint oil
Place in a spray bottle around perimeter to keep them away
